Urea, also known as carbamide, is a safe, useful compound with a significant history. It is a naturally occurring molecule that is produced by protein metabolism and found abundantly in mammalian urine.

Urea is produced through the urea cycle, a biochemical process that the body uses to eliminate waste. Proteins must be broken down regularly from excess protein in the diet or old cells that need replacing. The breakdown of protein creates a toxic substance called ammonia, which humans cannot safely excrete (eliminate).

Urea (46-0-0) usually has the lowest cost per pound of nitrogen compared to other single-element nitrogen fertilizers. However, urea undergoes unique chemical transformations when field applied and severe losses in efficiency may result if special management practices are not followed. The purpose of this fact sheet is to briefly describe urea transformations and to suggest how urea-N may be conserved with proper management in the field.

Synthetic urea is a common ingredient in skin care products. Manufacturers may include synthetic urea in skin care products to help exfoliate and moisturize the skin.

Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate is also called Mohr’s salt a light green color sand like crystalline solid. It is a hazardous substance and preparation of ferrous ammonium sulfate is carried out from equimolar mixture of hydrated ferrous sulphate and ammonium sulphate in water; containing a little of sulphuric acid.

While soil will supply some of your plants' needs, when you grow hydroponically it's up to you to make sure the water contains all the essentials.

Check the pH of the water you will be using in your nutrient solution using a hydroponic system pH test and adjustment kit available from most hydroponics suppliers. The level should be between 5.5 and 6.5, according to the University of Florida Extension. If it's not, use the chemicals in the kit to adjust the water's pH up or down it until it is in that range.According to Simply Hydroponics and Organics, there are several chemicals hobby gardeners can use to adjust pH, too, such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Citric acid can often be used, too, and is safe for organic gardening. Be cautious using sulfuric or nitric acid, as they can be dangerous.

Masterblend 4-18-38 Tomato Special will provide our plants with the widest range of nutrients. In fact, this fertilizer can be somewhat used solely where the other can’t. However, there is very little nitrogen and magnesium in this fertilizer and no calcium and sulfur. If you want a general formula that works for all your crops, you’ll need to add the other two fertilizers. Epsom Salt will provide additional magnesium and sulfur. The company Masterblend does not manufacture Epsom Salt. Instead, they outsource to Powergrow for it. You don’t have to use Powergrow’s Epsom salt. But while all Epsom salt is composed of magnesium and sulfate, the ratio can vary, and there are different grades for human and agricultural use. Powergrow’s Epsom salt is 16% magnesium oxide, 9.7% magnesium, 32% sulfate, and 12.8% sulfur. Calcium Nitrate (15.5-0-0) delivers calcium and nitrogen. Again, Masterblend does not produce their own calcium nitrate, relying on Powergrow, but you don’t have to use there’s. Powergrow’s calcium nitrate is 15.% nitrogen (14.5% nitrate nitrogen & 1% ammoniacal nitrogen), 19% soluble calcium, and less than 1% chlorine.

Macronutrients are essential elements that plants require in relatively large quantities. Some of these, such as oxygen, carbon and hydrogen, come from the air and water. Other macronutrients that all plants need are calcium, nitrogen, magnesium, potassium, sulfur and phosphorus. If your hydroponic garden lacks any of these elements your plants will fail to thrive and may appear stunted, with discolored and drooping leaves. You may be able to tell what's lacking by the symptoms; a plant that isn't getting enough nitrogen, for example, will be small and pale green.

In 2010 I used up my last bottle of organic liquid fertilizer concentrate, and I haven’t bought any since.
